Royce Buckingham, well known in Germany for his urban and medieval fantasy story-telling, gives readers something entirely different with September’s release of Kaltgestellt (U.S. Title: Impasse, St Martin’s Press)

The two-time best selling author applied his legal expertise to tell a tale, part legal/part adventure thriller of washed up 40-year old lawyer Stu Stark who’s law partner sends him on a one-week trip to the Alaskan wilderness to rediscover his manhood. But after a horrible week, Stu realizes that no one is coming back for him. Dying, Stu is found by a grizzled old hunter who informs him that winter has set in, and they’re not going anywhere for a while. Presumed dead, life goes on back in Stu’s hometown in ways Stu couldn’t even begin to imagine…

Der Wille Des Konigs (Mapper 2: The King’s Will) Comes Out in Germany September 15

Book II, Der Wille Des Konigs, of Royce Buckingham’s Mapper series hits stores on Monday. The book is a prequel to Buckingham’s best selling debut medieval fantasy Die Karte der Welt. The series is currently available only in Germany as pointed out in Reviewer Birgit Lutz’s 2013 comments regarding Die Karte der Welt.

“I am very thankful for the support that I’ve received from my publisher, editors and fans in Germany,” says Buckingham. “It’s bizarre too, though. With my fan base halfway around the world, there are no book launch parties, no keynote speeches, no signing events. My friends and fans in the U.S. cannot even read my book, because so far we’ve sold the German rights only.” Buckingham adds he is hopeful that the series will be picked up in the U.S. soon. Until then, Buckingham is concentrating on making his next book even better for his fans in Germany.

“Thankfully, I can connect with fans through social media, and my wife combs the web to find reviews,” says Buckingham. “It’s actually a good way to get feedback and do market research as I work on book three.” The third installment in the Mapper series will come out in 2015.
